What is the pound to baht rate in Phuket?
One rate covers every pound denomination. CAT Exchange does not split sterling into tiers, so a 5 pound note and a 50 pound note are counted at the same number of baht.
On 4 September 2026 CAT Exchange buys British pounds for 43.99 THB per pound at 246 Bandon-Cherngtalay Rd, Si Sunthon, Bang Tao. One rate applies to the 5, 10, 20 and 50 pound notes, and the office opens daily from 09:00 to 21:00.

How much baht do 100, 300 and 1,000 pounds give?
Multiply the amount by the rate and that is the cash you receive. The quote is a net rate, so counting and handling are already priced in and nothing comes off at the counter.
A 100 pound exchange at CAT Exchange on 4 September 2026 is calculated as 100 x 43.99 THB. 300 pounds comes to 300 x 43.99 THB and 1,000 pounds to 1,000 x 43.99 THB, with no separate commission on the total.
Sterling holds more baht per note than most currencies visitors carry, so a single 50 pound note settles a fair amount of a week in Bang Tao. Count what you actually need before you exchange the lot.
Are polymer notes a problem?
They are the easy case. The Bank of England moved the whole family to polymer between 2016 and 2021, and those notes survive a beach bag, a wet pocket and a year in a drawer far better than paper ever did.
Two things still matter with polymer. A hard crease or a heat mark from a car dashboard can damage the note, and a torn polymer note is harder to repair than a paper one. Cashiers check for tears, heat damage, ink and missing corners the same way they do with every other currency.
What about older paper pounds?
Ask before you travel. The Bank of England withdrew its paper 20 and 50 pound notes from circulation in 2022, and older paper sterling is handled case by case rather than as a standing offer.
Photograph both sides and send the picture to WhatsApp or Telegram. The same applies to notes issued by Scottish and Northern Irish banks, which look different from Bank of England paper and are confirmed for the specific note rather than promised in advance.
Do you need a passport?
Yes. Thai law requires a licensed money changer to identify each customer exchanging cash on the premises, so the passport comes with you to the counter and a photo on the phone does not replace it.
The identification rule follows the cash operation itself. Transfers settled remotely, without a visit to the counter, work under different conditions.
How long is a quoted rate held?
Sixty minutes from your confirmation in the chat. That covers the drive from Laguna, Cherng Talay, Boat Avenue, Layan or Surin, and the number you agreed is the number counted out at the counter.
CAT Exchange holds a confirmed pound rate, 43.99 THB per pound on 4 September 2026, for 60 minutes after the customer accepts it in WhatsApp or Telegram. An average cash exchange takes up to 15 minutes at the Bang Tao counter and ends with an electronic receipt.
